Upcoming UFC 111 Fight Matchups

UFC 111 – Saturday, March 27th, live on Pay-Per-View from Newark, New Jersey. For the first time in 2010, Ultimate Fighting Championship are hosting two world title matchups. Georges (Rush) St-Pierre is going head to head with Dan (The Outlaw) Hardy for the welterweight championship title as well as Frank Mir will be stepping into the octagon with Shane Carwin for the intrim heavyweight championship title.

Brief introduction to MMA

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport where pretty much anything goes. All leagues have their own specific rules but some universal techniques that are not permitted consists of:
  • biting
  • strikes to the groin
  • eye-gouging, fish-hooking
  • and small joint manipulation

Modern MMA competition emerged in 1993 when Ultimate Fighting Championships was founded. Although there where many other leagues, UFC quickly became the most popular world wide.

A Brief History On The UFC League

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization in which offers stellar performances of MMA fighters. The league was launched in 1993, with that being said, MMA has been around for a lot longer. In fact, it goes all the way back to the Olympics Games in Athens.

The UFC organization is based in America and Dana White, formally an aerobics instructor, is current the president. The league is rapidly being recognised and recently pulled in the largest audience North America has ever had for an MMA event of 21,000 people.
